Historic Brooklyn mansion returns to market for $20.99M

A Brooklyn Heights mansion once described as a “derelict eyesore” is back on the market after a decade-long reconstruction, alongside its neighbouring carriage house, with the two properties seeking a combined $20.99 million, the New York Post reported. The adjoining but legally and physically separate properties are being marketed together as Monroe Place Estates, with the 1852 mansion listed for $14.99 million and the renovated carriage house asking $6 million.A 1852 mansion that the city wanted goneThe 1852 Greek Revival home at 1 Monroe Place, in New York City’s first historic district, had been sitting derelict for years.

In 2008, the NYC Department of Buildings declared the house structurally unsound. The city removed the building’s top floors and forced its last three rent-stabilised tenants to leave.

The owner sued to block a full teardown, but a court threw out the suit in 2010.
