Bengaluru Pointing to findings from petrol samples tested across the State showing ethanol blends higher than the prescribed 20% on the social media platform X, Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said the Union government cannot turn a blind eye to the violation of E20 norms and blend more ethanol, thereby imposing a financial burden on ordinary citizens. “Reduced mileage, potential vehicle damage and rising maintenance costs are concerns that deserve serious attention.
It is unacceptable that consumers bear the cost while oil companies continue to report substantial profits,” he said. Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara said the “Modi-led government had already forced E20 petrol on the people, despite serious concerns over reduced mileage, additional fuel expenses and compatibility with older vehicles,” and the findings by the Department of Legal Metrology, Karnataka, were even more alarming.
He called the BJP-led Union government’s claim that an ethanol blend of petrol would help farmers a “double standard”.
