SpaceX president Gwynne Shotwell and her husband, Robert, are moving ahead with a pledge of more than 2 million shares in the space company for American children's investment accounts under President Donald Trump's federal programme. The first distributions are expected by the end of 2026, with children aged 11 to 17 in lower-income communities among the intended beneficiaries.
In an announcement shared on 30 October, Shotwell outlined the eligibility criteria, including children living in ZIP code areas with median family incomes of $57,000 or less. The planned contribution will also extend to other groups, including children in foster care and military families stationed overseas.Gwynne Shotwell's pledge of more than 2 million SpaceX sharesShotwell's announcement concerns a gift made by her and her husband rather than a donation being presented as a corporate contribution from SpaceX itself.
The couple's commitment involves more than two million shares in SpaceX, which are being moved into escrow ahead of their planned distribution through children's investment accounts.
