CHENNAI The Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services (TNFRS) has strengthened its fire prevention, emergency response and rescue preparedness across the Chennai Northern Region in view of the forthcoming Deepavali festival, when the extensive use of fireworks, increased commercial activity and large public gatherings pose heightened fire safety challenges. G.
Sathiyanarayan, Additional Director of TNFRS said the additional deployment would supplement the Northern Region’s existing strength of 813 personnel and 136 vehicles, taking the total available manpower to 1,129 and the fleet to 158 vehicles. The arrangements cover four fire service districts — Chennai South, Chennai North, Chennai Central and Chennai Suburban — with special focus on densely populated residential neighbourhoods, commercial establishments, fireworks outlets, crowded market streets and other vulnerable locations.
The existing fleet includes water tenders, quick response vehicles, water bowsers, foam tenders, emergency rescue vehicles and Bronto Skylifts.
