Kathmandu, Nov 8: KukurTihar, the festival honoring dogs, was celebrated across the country today, the third day of Yamapanchak during this year’s Tihar festival. Though KukurTihar is usually observed on the second day of Tihar, calendar adjustments have moved it to the third day this year, the Nepal Calendar Determination Committee chair DrPurushottamBhattarai said.
Dogs are honored with garlands, tika, and special treats for their loyalty and their traditional role as messengers of Yamaraj, the God of Death. Also known as NarakChaturdashi, the festival celebrates the close bond between people and dogs.
