NDA wins large number of MPTC seats in Godavari region

RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM Tension prevailed at the counting centre at Adikavi Nannaya University after former MLA Jakkampudi Raja and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) supporters staged a dharna demanding a recount of votes polled in the Korukonda ZPTC constituency during the counting of MPTC and ZPTC election results in East Godavari district on Saturday. Mr. Raja and his supporters sought a recount after the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) candidate secured a huge lead in the fourth round of counting.

The YSRCP had secured a substantial majority in the first three rounds. Later, Mr. Raja and his supporters were arrested, following which the counting resumed.

Meanwhile, counting of ZPTC votes continued at all counting centres across the Godavari region till 9 p.m., with police personnel deployed to prevent any untoward incidents. In the MPTC elections, the NDA partners, the TDP and the Jana Sena Party, secured victories in a large number of seats. The winners were advised against taking out victory rallies to prevent any untoward incidents in the Godavari region.
