SALEM Farmer ID registration under the Centre’s Agri Stack initiative has been made mandatory for farmers in Salem district to obtain fertilizers at subsidised rates. In a release, Collector K. Elambahavath said the Central government had introduced changes to the existing system of distributing subsidised fertilizers to farmers.
Henceforth, fertilizers would be distributed only on the basis of the Agri Stack Farmer ID. So far, fertilizers had been supplied according to farmers’ requirements after their Aadhaar details were recorded through Point of Sale (PoS) devices. Under the new guidelines, issued by the Central government, the framework for fertilizer sale has now been introduced.
Salem is among the seven districts in the State selected for the third phase of implementation of the new system. Under this arrangement, subsidised fertilizers will be distributed to registered farmers based on the crops cultivated and the extent of land under cultivation, the Collector said. All farmers in the district have been asked to register themselves on the Farmer Registry immediately.
